You Are Made Of Star Stuff
On Tuesday evening, we were honoured to be joined by world-renowned astrophysicist, Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discovered the Pulsar classification of stars while a PhD student at Cambridge University in 1967.
Professor Dame Bell Burnell delivered a Haileybury Lecture titled You Are Made Of Star Stuff in which she demonstrated how astrophysicists have traced the origin of each of the elements contained within the human body back to the structure and function of the stars across the universe.
Pupils and staff alike commented on Professor Dame Bell Burnell’s ability to convey the complex ideas of chemistry and astrophysics in an accessible and inviting manner. We are very grateful to Professor Dame Bell Burnell for taking time from her busy schedule to come and visit us once again.
