U13A netballers win second round of National Netball Cup
Congratulations to the Lower School’s U13A netball team who won the second round of the Independent Schools Netball Cup in a thrilling 31-27 match against Notting Hill and Ealing High School (NHEHS).
Under pressure right from the whistle, the Haileybury girls were behind for most of the game on Tuesday evening but showed enormous resilience, sticking to their game plan and supporting each other throughout the match.
Trailing by 5 goals at half time, they fought back in the 3rd and 4th quarters to a deserved 31-27 victory which sees them through to the third round of this national competition.
Outstanding defensive play from Natalya Wade and Sakura Shimizu kept Haileybury in the game, valiantly resisting the pressure from NHEHS’ tall attacking pair.
Whilst at the other end of the court Millie Rowland and Francesca Bridges/Grace Simister were accurate in their shooting, taking advantage of the mid court steals by Jess Tupman, Isis Cooke, Lily Chadwick-Jones and Aimee Gregory (LS1).
This was a fast paced and extremely physical contest but the Lower School girls showed their mettle and learned a good deal with some outstanding play from both teams.
As the game drew on, the noise from the parental support on the side-lines drew a crowd of teachers, from the senior school sports sessions, who are justifiably excited for the future of netball at Haileybury!
The draw for the third round will take place this Friday 20 October.
