U12 A netball team wins Small Schools competition
Haileybury’s Under 12 A and B teams participated in the Lea Valley netball tournament on Wednesday, 21 March, with both teams performing brilliantly.
As any school with fewer than 50 girls in the year are allowed to enter in the B tournament as a small school, both our A and B teams were in the same competition.
Haileybury A won their section, beating Chauncy B 5-0, Broxbourne B 3-2, Presdales C 3-1 and Sele A 6-3. In the semi-final, they beat Presdales B comfortably by 6-2 to take their place in the B team final against Sele A.
The final was a very tense match, with both teams feeling the pressure and failing to find their best form. Haileybury managed to hold onto an early lead, winning by 2 goals to 1 to win the B team and Small Schools tournament.
The Haileybury B team also played superbly to win their section, beating Goffs B 4-0, Presdales B 2-0, Broxbourne C 1-0 and John Warner B 4-3. They deservedly took their place in the semis against Sele A (playing as a small school). With two Hornets club players in their team, the Sele squad were just too strong for Haileybury B and we were beaten 5-1.
Congratulations to all the players.
