STEM Partnerships
Pioneering Partnerships: Haileybury’s Research Centre
At Haileybury, we believe in pushing the boundaries of education through innovative research and strategic partnerships. Our state-of-the-art Research Centre is at the forefront of this mission, fostering collaborations that bring real-world science into the classroom and propel our students into the future of scientific discovery.
Groundbreaking Initiatives
Stan-X Project
Haileybury is proud to be the first school in Europe to participate in the prestigious Stan-X project, a revolutionary genetics study using fruit flies. This partnership with professors from Stanford University is contributing to groundbreaking research on diseases such as diabetes and pancreatic cancer.
- 16 Haileybury pupils and alumni have co-authored research published in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Pupils gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge genetic research
- Out of the 42 pupils who have undertaken the programme, 74% have gone onto STEM-based degree courses. This is against a national backdrop of just 26%1 of pupils who achieve a STEM-based degree. Our Stan-X pupils go on to study degree courses such as medicine, dentistry, engineering and chemistry at top universities including King’s College, London, Durham, St Andrews, UCL and Columbia, NY.
CubeSat Space Mission
We are aiming to become the first secondary school in Europe to launch a CubeSat into space. This exciting venture, in partnership with BAE Systems, provides our pupils with unparalleled learning opportunities in:
- Spacecraft systems engineering
- Space mission planning
- Orbital mechanics, optics, electronics and programming
- CubeSat construction and engineering principles
Drinkable Rivers Programme
Haileybury has established its own hub for the worldwide Drinkable Rivers citizen science programme. This initiative allows our pupils to:
- Monitor and preserve the health of the River Lea
- Contribute to global efforts in water conservation
- Develop practical skills in environmental science
The Power of Collaboration
Our partnerships are crucial to the success of these initiatives. They provide our pupils with:
- Access to world-class expertise and resources
- Opportunities to contribute to real-world scientific research
- Exposure to potential career paths in STEM fields
Join Us in Shaping the Future
We are always eager to expand our network of partners. If you represent an industry leader or academic institution interested in collaborating with Haileybury, we’d love to hear from you.
