Sports science trip to the University of Hertfordshire
On 18 January, eight Sport, Exercise and Health Science pupils and 13 A Level PE pupils visited the Exercise Physiology Sports Science laboratories at the University of Hertfordshire.
The purpose of the trip was to give the pupils an insight into the types of laboratory work that physiologists do to support athletes as they strive for excellence in sport.
A number of pupils experienced the joy that is the VO2 max test (a maximal test of aerobic endurance, in this case carried out on a cycle ergometer), and others tried their hand at the sprint Wingate test (which measures anaerobic power and capacity). Pupils also learnt more about body anthropometry.
The trip was hugely successful.
