Rhiannon off to Spain with Team GBR
Just as the majority of Haileyburians take it easy for Christmas, Rhiannon Massey (L6, Aby) has been invited to her first fully-supported international sailing event as part of Team GBR and has jetted off to Palamos, south of Barcelona.
The annual Palamos race takes place from 18 to 23 December and is a senior Olympic Class regatta. Rhiannon is part of a five-strong women’s team along with their Team GBR coach, a support RIB, five Laser dinghies and their kit which all had to be transported from Weymouth to Palamos.
Just 30 women compete in the Laser Radial fleet, but the standard is high and includes several top international and Olympic sailors. Ali Young (who was 5th for GBR at the Olympics) will also be there. Racing takes place over a period of six days, with a medal race for the Top 10 sailors on the final day.
To follow Rhiannon’s progress, the event website has up to date news and results each day.
Good luck Rhiannon!
