Pupils inspired by Dudley Bright in music masterclass
Dudley Bright, Principal Trombone for the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), gave an incredible masterclass to pupils at Haileybury last week.
Dudley has been the LSO’s Principal Trombone since 2000, and is also Professor of Trombone at the Royal Academy of Music. Before that he was for many years in the same position at the Philharmonia Orchestra and Halle Orchestra.
Young musicians from Haileybury, Davenies School and Lochinver House had the unique opportunity to work with Dudley during the masterclass.
The pupils performed a selection of pieces on trumpet and trombone, and Dudley offered his experience, expertise and tips on how they could improve.
This included elements such as breathing, dealing with nerves, and visualising and imagining the piece of music before they started playing.
Dudley also shared some insights into his amazing career, which includes playing music for the last two Star Wars films.
Mr Shiels, Haileybury’s Jazz and Brass Lead Tutor, said: “Dudley’s wealth of experience is truly inspiring and I am sure that the afternoon will be an incredible experience that will stay with our young musicians for the rest of their lives.”
