Positive start to lacrosse season
The first lacrosse team travelled to Berkamsted school last Saturday morning to compete in the county tournament against six other schools.
We had a tough first round match against a strong Haberdashers side where their quick pace and tight stick skills caught us off guard. Not having a great start to the day, we were determined to fight back against our next opponents, St Margaret’s Bushee. We worked well together and displayed some great attacking place and beat them comfortably 8-0.
With a draw against St. George’s we went into our next match with high spirits, but we were against the tournament hosts and eventual winners of the tournament, Berkamsted. We played a solid game in defence and had some chances on attack but the final score was 4-1 which was an almighty effort against the county winners.
We narrowly lost to Bedford High School, which could have gone either way and for our final match against St. Alban’s High, we were adamant to end with a win. With an early lead, we let down our guard and found ourselves at 2-2 but with a burst of energy, we fought back and won 4-2.
Narrowly missing out by one point to make the playoffs, it was an encouraging start to Haileybury’s lacrosse season. All the girls had a great tournament, with a special mention going to Rowena Sharp, Chloe Allen and Rachel Buckley-Taylor who have been selected to go for county trials next Sunday.
