Melvill faire raises £500
An arts and crafts faire organised by the staff and pupils in Melvill last Saturday has raised £500 for Sightsavers, one of Haileybury’s official charities for this year.
Housemistress Ann Spavin is running the London Marathon in April on behalf of the charity and used this opportunity to do some fundraising. Cakes and sweets were cooked by the girls in the House and craft items were sold by a number of local people, including Katie Pruden (ceramic and stone sculpture – www.katiepruden.co.uk), ethical gifts by Green Tulip (www.greentulip.co.uk) and personalised towels by Jane Hamerton.
"Thanks must go to a number of Haileybury wives and staff, particularly the Melvill tutors, for their support in running the event. Thanks also to Caroline Kean for all her help," says Ann.
