Hockey girls thrash Kings Ely
Haileybury’s 1st girls’ hockey XI played at home for the first time this term last Saturday against Kings Ely. Haileybury dominated the early exchanges and scored after 10 minutes from a classy deflection by Emily James at a short corner. Slick passing and exceptional running off the ball continually had Kings Ely under pressure and Sarah Monk scored just before half time.
In the second half, as the spaces opened up, Haileybury began to play some excellent hockey. Minou Ghaffari displayed silky skills, bringing the ball out from the back and regularly cut through on the right. Magenta McDougall dominated the middle of the pitch and made some incisive runs. Haileybury scored five more in the second half to win 7-0. Bettina Otte scored two from short corners. Chloe Swaby looked very sharp up front and scored twice and there was another goal by Hannah Schafer.
Next week the team travel to Kings Canterbury, without captain Vicky Hewett who is away on a Biology field trip, to take on one of the East of England’s top hockey schools.
