Haileybury wins BSDRA regatta
Haileybury last week beat five other schools to triumph in the British Schools Dinghy Racing Association Thames Valley Area Regatta. Haileybury hosted the event, which was held at the Broxbourne sailing club.
The other schools which participated included Aldenham, City of London, Eton, Harrow and Wellington. The event was hosted by Haileybury and BSDRA Commodore, Nick Prosser, acted as Umpire and presented the trophies.
Despite an hour’s delay due to lack of wind, a good Easterly blew in and the teams were able to complete a shortened version of the full regatta.
The Haileybury team comprised captain Harry Smith (K), Duncan Ker-Reid (Th), James Taylor (K), David Hawkins (Th), Matthew Taylor (K) and Richard Smith (Th).
Says Pat Crook, teacher in charge of sailing: "All the boys (and Ben Tate (K) who could not sail because of a GCSE exam) put in a huge amount of effort in preparing for the regatta, ensuring that every single one of our 11 boats was ready for the day. They are very much to be congratulated on their performance."
