Haileybury’s U13A Netball Team wins the Sisters n Sport Cup Final
Last week, our U13A Netball team took part in the Sisters n Sport National Schools’ Netball Cup Final, which had originally been scheduled to take place last year. One year on, the girls utilised their skills and stormed into the final where they became the new winners and National Champions!
Sisters n Sport is an organisation that seek to bring girls together through sport (specifically netball). It provides girls with the opportunity to play netball and encourages them to work as a team to build and develop their skills. They have set up a range of competitions, including the National Schools’ Netball Cup Final that our pupils were involved in.
To get to the final, our U13A team had to complete four rounds, followed by the quarter-final and the semi-final, all of which were played against other qualifying teams from various schools. The girls started strong and stormed ahead going 9-3 up in the first quarter and ending the second 16-9.
In the final, our Lower School pupils faced The Grange (the previous winners). The strength, speed and rotation in the shooting circle from Saskia and Ella made it difficult for The Grange’s defence to disrupt our play. The defensive trio of Keli, Brogan and Poppy stopped The Grange from having a run of goals and they made countless turnovers to make sure that our team stayed in the lead. Charlotte and Liv were patient in attack and made use of their give and go’s to ensure that the shooters had many opportunities at the goal. The game ended with a fantastic 29 – 26 win to our U13A team.
Miss McFarlane said “From everyone at Haileybury, we are extremely proud of the girls and their success of becoming National Champions! They have worked so hard and it is really important that they get involved in Netball from a young age and practice the technical skills as much as possible.”
Congratulations to all involved and to Lower School pupil Ella who was awarded player of the match.
