Haileybury start hockey season with win
Haileybury got off to a winning start away at Queenswood last Saturday. Queenswood started strongly, forcing a couple of saves out of captain Vicky Hewett in the Haileybury goal.
However, Haileybury began to get control of the ball in midfield, with Magenta McDougall and Stephanie Otte causing problems for the Queenswood defence. Midway through the first half, Emily James finished a fine passing movement with an easy tap in for the first goal. Haileybury continued to dominate and carved out other chances but the Queenswood keeper made some good saves.
Queenswood started the second half in determined fashion, but Haileybury continued to play well and Chloe Swaby finished from close range 10 minutes into the half. Queenswood began to dominate midfield as Haileybury legs tired but excellent defending by Bettina Otte and Lois Hunt in particular prevented Queenswood from scoring until seven minutes from the end.
The final score remained at 2-1 to Haileybury.
