Dr Gerhard Schroeder Guest of Honour at Speech Day
The former Chancellor of Germany, Dr Gerhard Schroeder, will focus on "Europe’s Perspectives in a Globalised World" when he attends Haileybury’s Speech Day as Guest of Honour on 24 May 2008.
In his speech, Dr Schroeder will talk about the important role of education, not only in British society, but generally as the basis of the successful development of every nation.
The Master, Stuart Westley, says the school is very privileged to welcome such a distinguished guest. "The excellent contribution which many of the international pupils make to our essentially British school, and the value of the International Baccalaureate Diploma which we offer, with its emphasis on breadth, languages and internationalism, are all important issues which will be touched upon," he says.
Dr Schroeder, who was Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005, will also talk about his vision of Europe in the future and particularly of Britain’s part within it.
