Callum breaks 28-year old record for 100m
Congratulations to Lower School 1 pupil Callum Scutt (12), who won the Under 13 100m and long jump events at the Hertfordshire county athletics championships last Sunday, 10 May, in Stevenage.
In winning the 100m race, Callum broke a 28-year championship record with a time of 13.1s. The second placed runner’s time was 14.2s.
Callum, who was running for his club, Herts Phoenix, at the tournament, was subsequently chosen to represent Hertfordshire in the Under 13 inter-county championships in July in Kingston, Surrey. This is the second year in a row that he will be representing his county at the meeting.
In addition to his athletics, Callum is a talented footballer, playing for Herts and Essex at the recent ISFA tournament at Repton, and he also plays rugby for the Under 13A team at Haileybury.
In February, he took part in a quadrathlon event at the Midland Counties AAA’s in Birmingham, recording the fastest time by any English athlete of his age group in the 60m, with a time of 8.29s. He finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.19m. He ended up scooping first place in the quadrathlon, finishing with 1,578 points, 66 points ahead of his second-placed rival.
