Classical civilisation
Pupils will learn what life was like in Classical Greece and Rome through studying the lives of the people who lived at that time.
Why study classical civilisation at Haileybury?
Through studying classical civilisation, pupils will acquire a sophisticated level of knowledge and understanding of the literature and culture of the classical world by examining a diverse range of ancient materials and making connections and comparisons between them.
Academic pathways
Classical civilisation is offered as GCSE and A level public examination courses.
Beyond the curriculum
Each year pupils who study any of the classical subjects will get an opportunity to visit either Florence and Rome, or Greece, visiting Athens, Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae, and Tiryns and Epidaurus. In addition to these international trips, pupils will also attend Greek theatrical performances in the UK, as well as visits to the British Museum.
