STEM Research in the Curriculum

At Haileybury, we believe that engaging pupils in hands-on STEM research is key to deepening their understanding and passion for science.

At Haileybury, we believe that engaging pupils in hands-on STEM research is key to deepening their understanding and passion for science.

STEM research has been seamlessly integrated into our Year 9 and 10 science curriculum, fostering critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Removes (Year 9)

In Removes, pupils adopt an investigative approach, working as teams to explore scientific principles by taking on the challenge of boiling the perfect egg. This project cultivates teamwork, experimental design, and the ability to test and refine hypotheses, such that all pupils gain an understanding of the scientific method.

Middles (Year 10)

In Middles, pupils dive even deeper into the world of STEM, attending a TED Talk-style lecture followed by seminar sessions that explore cutting-edge research beyond the standard syllabus.

Pupils then apply what they’ve learned by creating academic-style STEM research posters. This project-based learning approach, supported by evidence in pedagogy, has been shown to significantly enhance understanding, retention, and engagement with the material.

By encouraging inquiry and investigation, STEM research prepares our pupils to become innovative thinkers and problem solvers, equipped for future scientific challenges.
