Studying Italian at Haileybury offers pupils a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in one of the world’s most beautiful languages and cultures.
Why study Italian at Haileybury?
Studying Italian at Haileybury provides pupils with a rigorous and well-structured program that immerses them in both the language and literature. This comprehensive approach ensures that learners develop a strong foundation while exploring the nuances of Italian culture.
Pupils gain access to Italy’s rich cultural heritage through various engaging activities, which enhance their understanding and appreciation of the language.
In addition to formal education, Haileybury offers vibrant language clubs that foster a sense of community among pupils. This dynamic environment allows pupils to build friendships and networks with like-minded peers who share their passion for Italian.
Learning Italian not only enriches personal growth but also enhances university applications and career prospects across diverse fields. The ability to communicate in another language promotes empathy and cross-cultural understanding, valuable traits in today’s globalised world.
Studying Italian at Haileybury equips pupils with essential skills and connections that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for future success.
Academic pathways
Italian can be studied as part of the core Year 9 curriculum, and the Italian Department offers public examination GCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
We are one of the few colleges in the UK to offer an IB Italian Literature course for native speakers. This is a wonderful opportunity for those pupils who have attended Italian Liceo and want to continue to study literature in their first language.
Our pupils also achieve excellent results in their public examinations in Ab Initio, GCSE and Literature IB courses.
Beyond the curriculum
The Italian Department extends learning beyond the classroom through various extracurricular activities. Pupils can engage in cultural activities, film screenings, and conversational practice as part of the Italian Club.
Additionally, Haileybury hosts events and guest speakers, offering deeper insights into Italian culture and contemporary issues. We have an established Lecture series with contemporary poets and writers that has become an excellent source of inspiration for our pupils.
