An opportunity has arisen for a talented and passionate Teacher of French and Spanish to join the Languages and Culture Curriculum Group at Haileybury.
French is a well-established part of the Modern Languages curriculum. A consistently high number of pupils select it at IGCSE, a significant proportion of whom continue their studies of this language in the Sixth Form.
Beyond the curriculum, the French team works with pupils in areas such as, the linguistics, history, politics and culture of France. Outside the classroom, the department offers trips to France, a debating club and various society events in order to enhance both intercultural and linguistic understanding.
Spanish is taught from Lower School 2 (Year 8) through to Upper Sixth in both A Level and International Baccalaureate (IB).
In the Lower and Middle School, pupils study a variety of topics and grammar related to the Spanish-speaking world. Sixth Form lessons are focused on a more in-depth study of topic areas, such as current affairs and contemporary issues. The Spanish Department offers study trips abroad and pupils attend literature and film conferences within the UK. Sixth Form pupils have access to peer mentoring and participate in annual debating competitions.
