Permanent; Full time; Term time only

Commencing: September 2024

Closing date: Thursday 15 February 2024 at 12 noon

An opportunity has arisen for a talented and passionate teacher of physics to join the Physics Department at Haileybury.

We are delighted that our pupils’ science and technology lessons are now taking place in our new SciTech building. The purpose of this innovative building is to improve the already strong science provision at the School by offering the latest technology to further challenge pupils and enhance their skills, and provide the space and opportunity for Haileybury to not only teach science to its pupils but also allow them to become scientists.

Students are offered a large range of activities and experiences beyond the classroom to develop a real interest in physics, such as attending university and IoP lectures, participation in extensive Oxbridge training, GSK Engineering competitions, Engineering club, the Physics Challenge and British Physics Olympiad (BPhO). The BPhO, hosted by the University of Oxford, aims to stretch and challenge pupils beyond the requirements of their academic qualifications by encouraging them to see the real-world problem-solving potential of physics. A-level pupils can also request to enrol in the IB Diploma Extended Essay which involves a major experimental investigation of 4000 words.

The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil the teaching requirements as directed by the Head of Department, according to the overall aims of the School. They can be expected to teach classes from Year 7 to Upper Sixth (Year 13) form. In addition, all teachers are expected to play a full part in the wider co-curricular life of the School.

Please see the candidate brief for more information.
