Computer Science
Studying computer science at Haileybury equips pupils with essential skills for the modern world, where technology is integral to daily life and numerous career paths.
Why study computer science at Haileybury?
Our computer science programme prepares pupils for their future careers by providing a comprehensive education in modern computing. The program covers practical skills such as programming in Python and using web technologies like HTML and JavaScript, as well as an understanding of the hardware systems that underpin these technologies. This ensures that pupils are well-versed in both the theoretical and practical aspects of computer science.
Haileybury’s computer science curriculum incorporates cutting-edge topics and technologies into its educational offerings. A Removes curriculum pathway focuses on Advanced AI, Cyber Security, and App Design, reflecting some of the most contemporary areas in the field of computer science. This pathway allows pupils to explore artificial intelligence, including its ethical and societal impacts, delve into advanced cyber security techniques such as quantum computing encryption, and engage in app design that combines creativity and coding skills.
Haileybury has embraced the integration of artificial intelligence throughout its computer science curriculum. The School promotes the responsible and ethical use of AI, offering pupils opportunities to learn about machine learning, natural language processing, and other advanced AI applications. This approach is part of a broader digital strategy that includes engaging parents and training staff to ensure that pupils are prepared for future workplaces.
By continually adapting its curriculum to include emerging technologies and fostering a forward-thinking educational environment, Haileybury ensures that its pupils are well-equipped to navigate and succeed in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
This comprehensive curriculum however does not only provide pupils with a solid understanding of computer systems and hardware but also fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Haileybury’s supportive and enthusiastic teaching staff create an engaging learning environment that encourages pupils to explore and innovate within the field of computer science.

Beyond the curriculum
Our state-of-the-art SciTech centre is the perfect environment for pupils to explore their interests within and beyond the curriculum, and fully immerse themselves in exciting learning and research.
Through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) GetIT programme, our Removes pupils are beta-testing cloud gaming devices and our Lower School pupils are working on an app design initiative.
The Haileybury Robotics Club is exploring the cutting-edge development of autonomous functions within robotics and programming through Vex Robotics and competing with other schools at regional and national levels.
The Computing Bytes Club allows pupils to pursue a variety of computing-related activities. These include the programming and flying of drones and the building of robotic arms.
