Debating Week at Haileybury
We are looking forward to hosting two exciting debating events this week.
First up on Tuesday (23 January) it is the 2018 Prep Schools’ Debating Challenge in Bradby Hall.
Pupils from from Aldwickbury School, Ashfold School, Cothill House, Hereward House School, Holmwood House and York House School will compete in teams of three to win the Junior and Senior Cups.
The motions are diverse and include lowering the voting age to 14, introducing term limits for MPs and whether single sex education is the way forward.
Then on Thursday (25 January) it is the North and Central London Interschool Spanish Debating Competition.
Linguists from eleven schools will come together to debate motions such as 'Cataluña can never be successful at independence' and ‘throughout history, religion has done more harm than good.’
The schools taking part are: Bancroft’s School, Channing School, Eton College, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, Immanuel College, Merchant Taylors’ School, Mill Hill School, North London Collegiate School and Wycombe Abbey.
We also look forward to welcoming Spanish Education Counsellor Mr Gonzalo Capellán and Education and Language Adviser Jesús Manuel Hernández from the Embassy of Spain in London, who have kindly agreed to support the event.
Good luck to everyone taking part this week and happy debating!
