Oxbridge Success
Eleven Haileyburians have distinguished themselves in recent weeks by securing offers at Oxford and Cambridge colleges. As everyone knows, entry into Oxford and Cambridge Universities has become even more intensely competitive and especially – it would seem – when applications arrive from young men and women with independent school backgrounds. Inevitably therefore a number of very strong candidates have not been successful. The number of offers is only one short of last year’s crop of a dozen and includes two candidates studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma. "We’re delighted that eleven candidates have been successful. Furthermore, there is the possibility that one or two others currently ‘in the pool’ might join this illustrious group." remarked William Flint Cahan, co-ordinator of Oxbridge applications. The courses on which places are secured are richly varied – Engineering, Economics, English, Languages, Mathematics, Law and Chemistry, for instance.
