International cricketers feature at Haileybury
More than 1 500 people were at Haileybury on Sunday 31 August to watch international cricket heroes such as Richie Richardson, Alvin Kallicharran, Shahid Afridi and Junior Murray take on a side from Ware (OH).
The event was held in aid of the local side’s attempt to raise enough funds to start work on their new pavilion.
The day began with a 10-over match between the Lashings team and Hertfordshire’s first registered disabled side, the Harriers, who restricted the international side to 16 for four. The disabled side soon overtook that score to seal a well-earned win.
This curtain raiser was simply a foretaste of what was to come. Superlative batting from the Lashings side saw them through to a massive score of 349 for 4 which the Ware (OH) side struggled to match. At the end of their 30 overs, the local team were for 199 for five, 150 runs behind.
Organiser Matt Gilewicz said that more than £3 000 was raised on the day, enough to kick-start the new traditional cricket pavilion.
