Lacrosse against Benenden
Last weekend saw Haileybury Lacrosse teams face off against Benenden, a consistently strong ranking school with a strong programme.
Benenden showed their experience early in the game against the 1st XII, pulling out to an early start. Haileybury gained on them in the second half though, dominating the ball and firing several shots against their impenetrable goalie. Despite five shots by Persephone Bridgman Baker and three more attempts by Lauren Smith, the score was 0-9 for Benenden.
The 2nd XII had a good beginning and played a strong first half. The Benenden side proved to be too strong though and the final score was 0-18.
At the beginning of the third match, the spectators hung their hopes for a home win on the under 14 squad. They delivered beautifully. Match captain Laura Niesslein led her team to an early lead. Powerful goals were scored by rookie Kara Stone who had a total of 7 shots and Mariana Lee with 5 attempts. Midfield play was anchored by Lucy Philips who owned every groundball she could get near.
Overall a heartening performance!
