Sporting success for Alex and Antonio
Some of Haileybury’s top sporting stars have been hard at work during the summer break, with two pupils bringing home national titles and gold medals.
Up and coming athlete Antonio Infantino (Tr) competed in the National Club championships in Birmingham last weekend, running for Enfield and Harringey athletics club. He won the 100m (with a time of 11.7 seconds, despite a 2m/s wind in his face) and 200m races in his age group. He then set a national meeting record for the U15 4x100m on the last leg, taking his gold medal tally to three.
Meanwhile, swimmer Alex Lodge (Th) competed at the National Finals at the end of July and was selected to swim in the Hatfield 4 x 100m freestyle relay team, not only qualifying for the final but breaking the British national record in the process.
In the final, the relay team broke its own record and won Gold.
Alex also achieved 21st position in the individual 100m freestyle, a result he was disappointed with.
Well done to both boys.
