Hockey XI beat East U18 champs
Last Saturday, the Haileybury 1st XI beat East Under 18 hockey champions, Queenswood, in a close-fought game in the pouring rain.
Queenswood dominated the early exchanges but a stunning run from the half-way line and strike from the top of the circle by Susie Carr made the half-time score 1-1. Haileybury were then all over Queenswood in the second half and deserved to take the lead when Sarah Monk scored from close in.
This was another excellent season despite an injury curse that has afflicted the team, with six different players being out with injury over the course of the term. The 1st XI have never lost when a full side has been available and, even so, have only lost twice by the narrowest of margins and have won the other eight fixtures.
"This group of players has been excellent to work with and have set extremely high standards over the last month when everyone has been fit," says Ian Saunders, master in charge of the team.
Congratulations to all involved.
