Orwell Park win Science Challenge
Congratulations to the team from Orwell Park in Ipswich, who were the overall winners of Haileybury’s Science Challenge yesterday.
They beat 16 other schools from across the south east of England to take the title.
The Science Challenge formed part of National Science Week. Over 80 primary school pupils took part. Places in the competition remain at a premium with over 50 schools wanting to enter this year.
The theme was Jurrasic Park and the teams were set tasks in biology, chemistry and physics. These included separation and identification of dinosaur blood for DNA analysis, digging for triceratops bones and assembly of the skeleton, as well as construction of a large electrified dinosaur pen.
The successful section winning teams were Orwell Park, Ralph Sadleir and Rickmansworth PNEU. The overall winners were Orwell Park School, Suffolk, with Kingshott, Hitchin in second place.
The event was sponsored by MSD and judged by Dr Simon Hughes from University College London and Mrs Frances Ronald.
