Bishopsgate wins Under 10 IAPS netball tournament
The Under 10 netball team from Bishopsgate School in Surrey proved their mettle last Sunday by beating Derwent Lodge in the final of the IAPS netball tournament hosted by Haileybury.
In addition, one of their players, Alex Oldfield, was named overall player of the day following her outstanding level of play.
Nine teams from across the East of England came together for the tournament, where some exceptional netball skills were shown by the young players who displayed spatial awareness and maturity far beyond their years.
Emma Wadsworth from Derwent Lodge won the most talented and versatile player of the day. She played superbly in the roles of GS, GA and GD.
Participating schools included Duncombe, Stormont, Ralph Sadleir, St Hilda’s, Taverham Hall, Derwent Lodge, The Grove, Palmer’s Green and Bishopsgate.
Games were arranged in two sections, with play-offs for fifth and sixth places, and seventh and eighth, and the semi finals.
The team results were:
Section A:
- Bishopsgate
- Stormont
- The Grove
- Palmers Green High
Section B:
- Derwent Lodge
- Taverham Hall
- Ralph Sadleir
- Duncombe
- St Hilda’s
After the play-offs, positions overall were:
9th – St Hilda’s
8th – Palmer’s Green High
7th Duncombe
6th The Grove
5th Ralph Sadleir
In the semi-finals, Derwent Lodge played Stormont, comfortably winning 7-0, while Bishopsgate beat Taverham Hall 14-2. The final was set to be a very exciting affair between two talented teams but unfortunately Derwent Lodge, who had looked unbeatable earlier in the day, were nervous and didn’t perform to their true capabilities. Bishopsgate, who played faultlessly, won the match 5-0.
