Music composition prizes announced
On Monday, 1 February, Haileybury’s Artistes in Residence for 09/10 ran an exciting African Drumming workshop with a number of pupils from the Lower School. Their piece (which they learnt in one workshop) was later performed in the concert and was based on rhythmic patterns from Ghana.
After the LS workshop Pangenesis worked with older pupils on their compositions in preparation for the evening concert when the winner of the junior and senior composition prizes would be announced and performed.
The winner of the junior composition was Nadine Al-Sam, with her composition entitled Pangenesis. The highly commended composition in the senior section was Playing War by Johanna Hockman and the overall senior winner of the Siegel Memorial Prize for Composition was Jonny Smith with his piece entitled Running Free.
