Chefs win seven medals at Hotelympia
Haileybury’s Chartwells chefs did us proud at Hotelympia, held at the Excel Centre this term. They brought back a total of seven medals, two certificates of merit and a hygiene award. With a very busy week at School, they gave up much of their own time to practise and prepare.
The Salon Culinaire held at this exhibition is a world-class culinary competition for chefs with an unrivalled reputation across the world and meant they were competing against some of the best from hotels, restaurants and all types of catering establishments.
"Congratulations to them but credit must also go to Mike Hodges, the executive chef, who is a dedicated teacher to them all, encouraging and supporting them to improve their skills and experience in the culinary world," says Jackie Williams, catering manager.
Leszek Karpinski won Gold & Best in Class in the Essential Cuisine Chefs Team. Leszek teamed up with James Hart who spent two years at Haileybury and recently transferred to Goodenough College as head chef. He also won Bronze in the Plated Dessert School and Social Services and in the Senior Pasta sections.
