Jazz musicians wow their audience
Last Friday, 21 January saw the 2011 Friday Night with the Jazz Bands in aid of Isobel Hospice gig. The standing ovation and shouts for more said it all! The jazz band and choir performed to their highest levels, with foot tapping performances of Fascinating Rhythm, Goodnight Sweetheart, Smooth, Boplicity to name but a few.
In between, soloists wowed the audience with their polished performances, including a beautiful rendition of Three Moments from West Side Story by Owen Liggett on the trumpet and They Can’t Take that Away From Me sung by Rosie Jenkins. The Jazz Band played host to three different vocalists this year, with Tom Gratton and Jamie Ainsworth making their vocal debut singing Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Iris and the formidable vocal talents of Clara Johnston singing Pack Up, Sway and the storming Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder.
If you were unfortunate enough not to be able to come (tickets sold out so quickly!), there is a repeat performance of the concert in Bradby Hall this Sunday, 30 January at 8pm. Tickets are £10 with a paying bar. Money raised will be put into supporting pupils going on the Haileybury Music Tour to Prague this summer.
