1st and U15 lacrosse girls win
The 1st lacrosse team played away at Haberdashers on Saturday, 5 February. We expected a very difficult match as Habs have won the county tournament several years running and are a very challenging team. We started off very strong, seeing some superb goals from Lucy Smith and Alana Zukas, leaving the half time score at 7-1.
Habs came back fighting hard and got 2 more goals but the defence stayed strong and despite some unfair tackles, Ro Sharp took the ball down from defence and scored. Sara Norris faced some tough goal scoring from Habs but played extremely well, saving some very well placed goals, so our team unanimously named her MVP of the match. The end score was 11-3 to Haileybury.
Meanwhile, the Under 15 girls’ lacrosse team made the two-hour journey to Uppingham on Saturday to play in a triangular against two highly competitive schools, Uppingham and Stowe. The long journey was worth it in the end, as Haileybury came away with a 5-2 victory over Uppingham and a 5-5 draw against Stowe.
Leading the attack in goal scoring were Beth Nutt and Charlotte Lennox, with Emily Nabnian, Stephanie Flanagan and Charlotte Gedye also contributing by adding several assists.
Haileybury’s success in each match was due largely in part to impressive efforts on the defensive end, which was led by low defender Emma Malcolm and defense-wing Katherine Phillips. Alternating in goal, Sarah Jowett and Claire Clough came up with big saves for their team.
