St George's boys take home the Haileybury Shield
The hockey team from St George’s, Weybridge beat Old Buckenham Hall 2-1 in the final of the Under 11 Hockey IAPS National Qualifiers, held at Haileybury on Tuesday.
Other qualifiers among the 16 prep schools which took part were St Andrew’s, Woking and St Martin’s, Northwood.
Winners of the Plate competition were Alleyn’s, who beat Bancrofts Prep 1-0 in the final.
Tony Nunn, an OH who won a bronze medal for Great Britain in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, presented the trophies alongside Jonathan Ebsworth, England and GB Goalkeeper, whose grandfather is also an OH.
Andy Searson, the organiser, says: "The day was dry and bright, but very cold but the hockey played couldn’t fail to warm the spectators up! The level was exceptional for the Under 11 age group and the top four qualifiers for the Nationals will represent the region with aplomb."
The 16 schools that took part were: The Beacon, Heath Mount, Ashfold, Felsted Prep, Unicorn School, St John’s, Northwood, Dulwich College, St Andrew’s, Woking, Alleyn’s JS, Aldwickbury, Edge Grove, Bancrofts Prep, South Lee School, Old Buckenham Hall, St George’s College JS and St Martin’s, Northwood.
