Three winners in county athletics champs
Haileybury athletes performed brilliantly at the Herts Schools County Championships last week, with no fewer than 20 finalists out of a possible 26 events entered.
There were three winners: Callum Scutt broke the School Long Jump record with 5.83m (as well as three other jumps out of his six over the old school record). This eclipsed the mark set by Matthew Morrison last year, and means Callum is county champion. He has now been selected to represent Hertfordshire in the long jump at the English Schools Championships in Gateshead on 1 and 2 July.
Christian Scales ran 53.1s to break his own School 400m record to win and Lizzie Bird retained her 1500m title from last year in 4.36.4. All three look set to be selected to represent Herts County in the Nationals, screened live on SkySports, in three weeks’ time.
There were also medals for Matthew Morrison, 2nd in the 200m, a year young, and Will Stibbs and Caitlin Scales, both Lower School, who finished 3rd in the 800m and 100m respectively.

On the same day, a Senior team travelled to Sevenoaks to compete in a triangular tournament and, although much depleted, there were some great performances, most notably a win in the 4 x 100m relay with only one member of our normal, trained, quartet. This is testament to the strength in depth the Seniors have in the Sprints.
