Under 19 netballers excel in national schools county tournament
SECTION RESULTS
Haileybury v Presdales WON 11-8
Haileybury v Royal Masonic WON 12-4
Haileybury v Berkhamsted WON 15-11
Haileybury v D.A Owens WON 12-3
With only two players from last year’s winning team, the new Under 19 squad showed unbelievable team spirit as early on in their match against Berkhamsted, Alana Zukas (playing WD) suffered a serious injury in an accidental fall. The game had to be transferred to another court and Hannah Grint was brought on – the team had to continue playing and the courage they had to pull out a victory was exemplary.
To then gain a huge victory over Dame Alice Owens in the last match with their fallen team mate still receiving treatment again highlights their reserves and conviction to play for each other.
QUARTER FINAL RESULTS
Haileybury v Bishops Stortford High LOST 6-10
Haileybury v Broxbourne WON 15-9
Great results against experienced teams ensured that Haileybury went through to the semi finals.
SEMI FINAL RESULT
Haileybury v Goffs LOST 6-14
The Goffs team were highly experienced and all are club players – this extra expertise meant that they could use a range of tactics to increase their goal tally even though Haileybury never stopped working at full pace and with determination.
The new players in the Under 19 squad excelled themselves. They responded brilliantly to coaching and were very supportive of each other during play – all good indicators for further improvement next term.
The team’s new defensive line-up of Ayla Spearman, Rowena Sharp, Hannah Grint and Alana Zukas showed outstanding grit, commitment and work ethic. Rowena Sharp was ths coach’s Player of the Tournament.
We hope Alana has as speedy recovery as possible – her speed, timely interceptions and close marking were outstanding on the day.
