Chamber Choir in last 6 of Choir of the Year
We are thrilled to announce that Haileybury’s Chamber Choir has become one of six senior school choirs to make it through to the 2012 Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year.
Guaranteed a performance on national television in front of an audience of 1500 in Manchester and many more than that on BBC 1, the semi-finals and finals are on 11 and 12 February 2012. The choir will be performing two works – Angel Voices (Director of Music Quentin Thomas’s arrangement of the hymn) and the traditional spiritual, Steal Away.
This honour coincides with the year that Haileybury starts to celebrate its 150th year, while Songs of Praise (the most watched TV programme across the world) celebrates its 50th year.
The Haileybury pupils won the competition in 2005. "No school has ever won the Choir of the Year title twice, so here’s hoping we can make history," says Quentin.
