OH Antonio wins Gold in 200m
Congratulations to Old Haileyburian Antonio Infantino, who won a Gold medal in the men’s 200m race at the British University Championships last weekend.
Antonio, although ranked 4th going in to the competition because of injury problems, stormed through the rounds to win the final in a lifetime best performance of 21.42s. This takes him to 4th in the UK rankings for 200m senior men.
Out of the 102 competitors, Antonio strolled through his heat in 22.07s, ensuring his place in the semi-finals and was the fastest qualifier. There were five semi-finals so it was imperative he should win his semi-final to ensure qualification to the final. He won his semi-final convincingly in 21.61s, beating Lumar Sylvester, a Bronze medallist at the Aviva Championships two weeks ago.
He then stormed the final with a time of 21.42s lifetime best in a closely contested final.
This was a fantastic end to the indoor season and he will now be preparing for the outdoor season after a spell of warm weather training and before taking his final exams at King’s College London.
