Andrew Motion attending Haileybury Festival of Arts, 1-15 June
Haileybury Prep & Primary Schools’ Festival of Arts, 3-15 June 2013
We are delighted to announce that former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion will be attending the Festival of Arts Exhibition on Thursday 13 June and will be leading two sessions with selected pupils.
The first session will be a masterclass with the pupil authors of the five very best creative writing pieces submitted to the competition, as selected by Haileybury English teacher Nigel Parkin. Sir Andrew will then lead a creative writing workshop involving another 15 prep and primary school pupils whose creative writing submissions have been judged as outstanding.
The afternoon will conclude with Sir Andrew Motion reading from his collection of war poems, The Customs House, which draws on soldiers’ experiences of war from 1914 until today, through World War Two, Korea and the recent conflict in Afghanistan. Parents, pupils and staff are very welcome at this event.
COMPETITION ENTRIES
We are looking forward to receiving prep and primary school entries for the Creative Writing and Art Competition. The deadline is fast approaching – Monday 11 March – so now is the time for the children to add those finishing touches and essential final edits.

FESTIVAL OF ARTS EXHIBITION – HOW YOUR SCHOOL CAN BE INVOLVED
In anticipation of numerous and high quality submissions, the exhibition of pupils’ work will this year be on display for two weeks, between 3-15 June, culminating in the Awards Ceremony on Saturday 15 June.
Artwork and writing will be exhibited in two purpose-built marquees in Memorial Quad at Haileybury for the entire two week period. Schools are invited to make use of these spaces for their own writing or art workshop sessions and to invite and encourage families to view their children’s work on display.
