Rhiannon in GBR sailing team Qualifiers
In February Rhiannon Massey (L6, Aby) was selected to sail in the Nations Cup – an annual Youth sailing event for teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Over two days of racing she finished as 1st Girl in the Laser Radial class.
This weekend saw the start of the Laser Qualifier series at Stokes Bay on the South Coast. The Qualifiers are used for GBR team selection for the World and European Championships. The Stokes Bay qualifer was a Senior event and the overall winner was Ali Young who was part of Team GBR at the 2012 Olympics.
Rhiannon was 21st overall in a fleet of around 125 Laser Radials and finished an impressive 2nd place in her age group of U19 Girls, narrowly missing first place by just a couple of points.
Rhiannon’s next major event is the week-long Youth National Championships in Largs, in Scotland over Easter. Everyone at Haileybury wishes her the best of luck and continued success.
