Strong Performance at Sevenoaks Athletics 2013
Haileybury boys were able to secure 2nd place overall in the six-school competition at the weekend, involving teams from Hampton, Christ’s Hospital, Sevenoaks, Caterham and Judd. Athletics coach Richard Williams reports on their strong performances:
Seniors – 2nd overall
A super performance across the board, but we were just pipped to the overall title by a very strong team, despite personal best runs from both entrants. Highlight of the day had to be Okemdi Chukwu’s first ever sub 11 second clocking in winning the 100m. Individual wins on the day also went to Matthew Morrison (400m and Long Jump), Chukwu (100m and Triple Jump), while both relays teams (4 x 100m and 4 x 400m) won their races.
Intermediates – 1st overall
Going into the final two relays, the points were even with Judd, and Sevenoaks were just four points adrift. However, with emphatic wins in both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m we pulled clear just in time to take the win by 10 points. Highlight of the day went to Christian Scales for a win by 45m in the 400m! Individual wins on the day also went to Austin Winton (200m), Scales (400m and Long Jump), Myles Senior-Campbell (100m), Eric Chu (Hurdles and Triple Jump).
Juniors – 6th Overall
An admirable effort from all the pupils involved, despite many covering events not considered their first choice. In addition, our star performer so far this term, Will Stibbs, was injured in his first event of the day and was unable to take any further part.
