Andrew Sparkes CMG gives lecture at Haileybury
The school community enjoyed a fascinating talk given by Andrew Sparkes CMG, the former HM Ambassador to Nepal and HM Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This report has been written by Upper Sixth pupil Charles Bickel:
It was a pleasure to welcome such a distinguished and long term servant of the British government to Haileybury to deliver a lecture on the relevance of Africa to the modern day world, not least because of Haileybury strong past connections to British colonialism.
Andy’s extensive career has seen him travel to amazing places across the region and he shared some fantastic anecdotes with us about his times in the Democratic republic of Congo between 2004 and 2007 and his more recent times as ambassador to Nepal from 2013 onwards.
Andy’s lecture was truly interesting and insightful and really helped to broaden the horizons our economics and geography students. I for one would like to extend my own personal thanks to Andy for what proved a most interesting evening!
