Haileybury girls take to the hills for our Youth Trust

Seven Haileybury girls are running a hilly half marathon in the Cotswolds for our school charity the Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT) at the end of May.

The seven girls, all in their Lower Sixth year, have been training hard for the 13 mile event, the Dymock Half Marathon.

They hope to raise £2,600 which will allow HYT to build two large water tanks, giving two schools clean water for the first time.

HYT works to transform lives in Uganda, improving whole communities and the lives of hundreds of poor families.

Three of the girls, Izzy Stibbs, Angelica Pettafor and Ania Todd, visited Uganda last October on a Geography trip and saw the difference HYT is making to people’s lives. 

“HYT is an incredible charity, improving the quality of life in rural Uganda,” says Izzy. “We have seen at first hand the work HYT does and how important it is,” added Ania and Angelica.

The three girls will be joined by Charlotte Reade, Nina Mansbridge, Ezgi Worthy and Sara Titchen for the run, which takes place on Sunday 29 May.

The Deputy Master, Dr Ruth Sullivan, and Melvill Housemistress Mrs Olivia Firek have been helping the girls train throughout the term.

They say: “We have been so impressed with the girls’ attitude and the hard work they have put into training.”
