HYT longlisted for Ashden International Award
A big well done to our school charity which has been longlisted for a prestigious international award.
The Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT) works in Uganda, which is one of the poorest countries in Africa, to transform people’s lives and improve communities. It focuses on sustainable building projects using compressed interlocking earth blocks instead of environmentally damaging fired bricks.
Excitingly, HYT has been longlisted for the renowned Ashden International Award. The Ashden Awards recognise outstanding contributions to global sustainability.
There are 33 organisations in seven categories in Ashden's 2017 International Award longlist, with HYT included in the sustainable buildings section.
The shortlist will be announced in March, and the award will be presented at a ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society on 15 June.
Russell Matcham, Director of HYT, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised as a leader in offering practical, sustainable solutions to global humanitarian and environmental challenges.”
