Fond Farewell To Simon Heard and Dougal Lyon

It is with both gratitude and sadness that we bid farewell to our Deputy Master, Simon Heard, as he embarks on an exciting new chapter as Head at Sherborne School.
Simon has been an instrumental figure in ensuring the smooth running of our school, always working with dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to our community. Whether welcoming parents and staff, supporting pupils at
weekly sporting events, music concerts, plays, or pupil meetings, his presence has been invaluable. His important contributions to our school developments and tireless efforts behind the scenes, along with his enthusiasm for every aspect
of school life, have left a lasting impact on us all.
Beyond this, Simon has been a passionate advocate for sustainability, leading our pupil group and driving initiatives towards our goal of developing a long-term sustainability strategy.
His vision and leadership in this area will continue to inspire us long after his departure. Simon’s legacy lives on of course through the planting of Newton’s Tree in the Quad, a project in which he played a key role.
He will be missed by pupils, staff, and parents alike, and we know he will bring the same energy and leadership to his new
role. We wish him every success at Sherborne School.
After seven dedicated years at Haileybury, Dougal Lyon bids farewell, leaving behind a lasting impact on our school community.

With his infectious sense of humour, passion for geography, and genuine care for our pupils, he has been an inspiring presence both in the classroom and beyond. As a highly successful Housemaster of Thomason and, more recently, Head of Geography, his leadership and warmth have enriched the lives of many.
Dougal now embarks on an exciting new chapter as Headmaster of Craigclowan School in Perth, Scotland. In his final Chapel address, he encouraged our pupils to prove George Bernard Shaw wrong, showing that youth is not wasted on the young! He will be greatly missed, and we wish him every success in his new role.
