November In-Weekend: A Rewarding Community Experience
At Haileybury, boarding is a vibrant, enriching experience that fosters lifelong friendships and personal growth. Our In-Weekends exemplify the lively community spirit that makes boarding at Haileybury so special.
During a recent In-Weekend, our pupils enjoyed an array of fun activities that showcased the breadth of opportunities available. The weekend commenced with a delightful pre-supper recital by talented violinist, Joe in our newly refurbished Lower Strings Room. Joe, who is preparing for Music Conservatoire auditions, treated the audience to a virtuosic programme of Mozart and Sibelius.
Our International Society celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with great enthusiasm. Pupils savoured a sumptuous feast featuring Mrs Mughal’s renowned biryani, embracing the joy of cultural diversity that is a hallmark of Haileybury life. The festivities continued with pupils spinning sparklers on the Terrace, creating a magical atmosphere of light and laughter.
The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly House Music, where our talented pupils came together to deliver unforgettable musical performances. From One Direction to Jessie J, the range of songs showcased the eclectic tastes and abilities of our pupils. The announcement of winners on the Terrace was followed by a spectacular fireworks display, uniting the entire Haileybury community in a moment of shared wonder.
Saturday also featured an exciting day of Haileybury sport, highlighted by live-streamed matches for the 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Girls Hockey on NextGenXV, with commentary from current pupils. The 1st XV achieved a remarkable victory against St Edward’s, Oxford, while the Girls’ 1st XI extended their unbeaten streak to 18 matches. Our Lacrosse teams also had success, with the 1st X winning 11-7 against King’s School Canterbury. Additionally, Badminton saw over 20 pupils compete in a historic fixture. Overall, it was a tremendous day of sport with widespread participation across various disciplines. Follow @HaileyburySport on Instragram for the latest triumphs, match previews and photos.
Our In-Weekend coincided with Remembrance Sunday, providing an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. Haileybury gathered for a poignant service filled with meaningful readings, hymns, and choral music. We observed two minutes of silence and witnessed the laying of wreaths at the Cross of Sacrifice by our Master, Heads of School, and pupils—a moving tribute to those who served our country.
These diverse activities exemplify why boarding at Haileybury is such an enriching experience. Our pupils don’t just live here; they thrive in a supportive environment that encourages character development, cultural awareness, and community spirit.
