1st XV invited to Rugby School to celebrate bicentennial anniversary of the game of rugby
Our 1st XV were thrilled to be invited to Rugby School on Wednesday for a celebration match to mark the 200th anniversary of the game of rugby.
The game took place on the very same pitch where, in 1823, William Webb Ellis picked up a football in his arms and ran with it, thus creating rugby as we know it today.
“Wednesday’s game against Rugby School was one of the best games I’ve ever seen at school level. The momentum kept swaying back and forth between both teams and for us to come back from 21-8 down to win 27-26 was incredible!” – Will, U6, Captain of the 1st XV
“The tremendous atmosphere at the game yesterday was what made it so special. The whole of the Rugby School came out to support and cheer. There was a lot of pressure on us as a team, and it’s a credit to the boys how hard they worked.” – Lucas, U6, Vice-Captain of the 1st XV and Sports Prefect
Thank you to Rugby School for welcoming us, and a huge well done to all the players for a fantastic and hard-fought game!
